Job Description:

The San Raffaele Scientific Institute in Milan, Italy, has recently launched its new Center for Translational Genomics and Bioinformatics and is seeking talented scientists in several roles.

The Center will be involved in a significant number of cutting-edge projects of translational nature and clinical relevance and international collaborations. We are therefore looking for passionate and bright candidates from a variety of disciplines (biology, maths, statistics, computer science, physics), who must share an interdisciplinary mindset and a passion to build and develop the Center into a world-class entity.

We are seeking to hire approximately 10-12 people within the coming months covering the following areas:
* Scientists who enjoy working on the interface between the wet lab and the dry lab, who are capable to design, perform and analyze their own experiments
* Bioinformaticians involved in the analysis of next-generation sequencing data
* Biostatisticians involved in staistical genetics, transcriptomic signatures, epigenetic profiling
* Mathematcians/Statisticians involved in building integrated models and networks from next-gen sequencing data
* Computational biologists interested in integrating genomics and high throughput imaging approaches, as well as computational scientists interested in developing novel data visualization methods
* Several post-doctoral positions will be available on specific research projects already funded, which apply genomics in disease areas such as Allergy, Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s.

Context

The San Raffaele Institute is part of the largest biomedical park in Italy and it has integrated clinics (as part of the San Raffaele Hospital with over 1,300 beds), research and education for the last 20 years. In 1992 San Raffaele expanded with the inauguration of DIBIT, a building dedicated to basic science, with a research space of about 12,000 square meters where at present 250 people are employed in basic, translational and clinical research, including scientists, technicians and administrative personnel, along with additional 300 fellows, consultants, trainees and graduate students. In the last 2 years the campus has undergone a further expansion by developing the DIBIT-2, which has expanded almost three-fold the floor space devoted to research and substantially increased and empowered research in the different fields where San Raffaele has become highly renowned. As part of this expansion, and in recognition of the pivotal role that –omics is increasingly playing in translational research, the Center For Translational Genomics and Bioinformatics was launched last year. The Center is equipped with state of the art genomics technology (Illumina Hi-Seq, microarray platforms, etc) as well as a dedicated high performance computing facility with over 1,000 cores, all connected via Infiniband, including several nodes with 1TB of memory.

Remuneration/Applications

We will offer competitive salaries commensurate with experience and role. Candidates should send:
-a cover letter explaining the role they would like to undertake within the Center, even if it is not listed in this job ad, stating clearly why they would be a good fit to the proposed role, and what they would bring to the Center in terms of expertise, ideas, talent.
-a CV including a list of publications
-List of referees
Please send all the material to Elia Stupka (stupka.elia@hsr.it), Co-Director of the Center For Translational Genomics and Bioinformatics
Applications are open and ongoing during 2011 until all roles will be filled.
