BITS 2011 - Call for Contributions

BITS2011  - Pisa – June 20-22, 2011, Area della Ricerca del CNR

http://www.bits2011.it/

Call for Contributions

Topics

Submitted contributions should address novel bioinformatics methods, algorithms, databases, tools and applications for research and development in one or more of the following domains:

- Genomics

- Molecular Evolution and Comparative Genomics

- Protein structure and function

- Proteomics

- Transcriptomics

- Metagenomics

- Systems Biology

- Biological Databases and Biobanks

- Algorithms for Bioinformatics

- Biophysics and Synthetic Biology

- Industrial Track

In addition to the usual Topics of general pertinence in Bioinformatics, this meeting will cover two new areas:

- Biophysics and Synthetic biology (as Structural biology and Origin of Life themes are in common between these disciplines and Bioinformatics)

- Industrial track: in cooperation with Fondazione Toscana Life-Sciences, with the goal to have a parallel discussion of the possible industrial applications of the scientific subjects discussed during the sessions.

We  stimulate industries not only to submit scientific contributions, that are welcome as usual, but to give short talks focused on their needs, goals and direction concerning bioinformatics, with particular emphasis at opening a dialogue with young researchers and Ph. D. students. A round table in the last congress day will collect a global assessment of how the industrial world sees the bioinformatics research.

Special Issue

All authors will be invited to submit an extended and revised manuscript to a Call for papers for a Supplement of BMC Bioinformatics devoted to best works from BITS 2011.

Travel Grants  for Young Researchers

The Bioinformatics Italian Society provides young researchers with travel grants for attending its annual general meeting.

Eligibility:
Young researchers (up to 35 years old) that are BITS members or are requesting to become members, without a permanent position and submitting an abstract to the conference as first or last author may apply.  Priority will be given to young researchers not receiving  a BITS travel fellowship in previous years.

Evaluation:
Travel Grants will be awarded according to the scores assigned by the Scientific Committee to the submitted abstracts.  Only the best scoring attendee per each research group may be rewarded with a travel grant.  Young researchers requesting to become members may only receive the grant if the BITS Steering Committee has provisionally given its approval to their candidature.

Grants:
Each travel grant will amount to € 300.00, which will be credited to the bank account of selected candidates after the conference and provided that they effectively participated in the meeting.

Deadlines:
Applications should be received together with the submitted abstract (both for Posters and Communications). Submission of candidature to become BITS members should be done within the same deadline (for young researchers who aren't members yet).

Registration:
Student fees apply,  according to registration date.
