Position : Scientific Curator
Location: Bioversity International - Montpellier - France

Bioversity International is seeking a Curator for genome sequence analyses
Based in the dynamic city of Montpellier, in southern and sunny part of France, the incumbent will contribute to the Bioversity's project portfolio in the context of banana conservation and will assist in the area of banana genome functional annotation. The incumbent will work with a dispersed team composed of bioinformatics scientists working together for the development of a bioinformatics platform called SouthGreen.
In particular, the incumbent will:
* Perform genome sequence analysis, especially focused on plant gene families related to
agronomic traits;
* Check quality control of plant genome sequences, correct and enrich data as
necessary;
* Contribute to the manual annotation of the GreenPhylDB and GnpAnnot Musa project;
Participate in the design of web annotation interfaces;
* Contribute to the development of standard curation procedures and provide related
training to users.
Qualifications and competencies:
Essential qualifications & competencies:
* A PhD degree in biology, genomics or bioinformatics. Other related academic
qualifications combined with relevant experience will also be considered.
* At least 3 years of professional experience; experience working on a genome annotation
project would be an advantage.
* Hands-on expertise in genome annotation (both structural and functional), preferably in
plant genomes.
* Competence in the use of relevant software tools (Artemis/Apollo, Gbrowse, Blast) and
international databases (e.g. UniProtKB, InterPro, Kegg).
* An aptitude for DNA and protein sequence analysis.
* Good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a multicultural environment.
Desirable competencies and qualifications:
* Good basic programming skills (e.g. Perl).
* Working knowledge of French language.
* Demonstrated publication record.
Terms and conditions: This is a locally recruited position, based in Montpellier, France. The
remuneration package includes a competitive salary, social security and leave provisions. All
benefits are denominated and paid in EURO. As this is a locally recruited position, relocation
costs are not covered. The salary is exempt from French income tax (an internal taxation is applied). The contract will be for a fixed period of one year subject to a probationary period of six months.
