Research Bioinformatician/Statistician

WEATHERALL INSTITUTE OF MOLECULAR MEDICINE, Department of Medical Oncology

Grade 7: Salary £28,983 - £35,646 with a discretionary range to £38,951 p.a.

We would like to appoint a Research Bioinformatician/Statistician to work with Dr Francesca Buffa and Professor Adrian L Harris on the integration of bioinformatics and genome-wide data-mining approaches with cancer physiological models to develop tools for clinical decision making.

Applicants should possess a PhD in bioinformatics, statistics or a closely related area, or the equivalent relevant research experience. Previous experience in the manipulation of large multivariate genomic/genetic datasets in human disease, preferentially cancer, would be an advantage.

The project aims at integrating results from the mining of genomic/genetic human cancer data and analysis of pathways associated with cancer progression, with information from models of cancer physiology. The ultimate goal is to incorporate this information into tools that facilitate clinical decision making. The successful applicant would be involved in development, implementation and validation of methods, as well as analysis of samples from trials and a wide range of experimental model systems.

The work will be conducted as part of a large-scale European project intergrating research in the areas of information technology, data-mining, mathematical modelling, clinical trial design and conduct, and cancer biology. The post will provide a unique opportunity to collaborate with several teams both within the University and across Europe.

The position is funded by the European Commission 7th Framework Program for four years. For further information see the website http://www.imm.ox.ac.uk/careers/current-vacancies.

Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Francesca Buffa (email: francesca.buffa@imm.ox.ac.uk) or Professor Adrian L Harris (email: aharris.lab@imm.ox.ac.uk).

To apply please send a CV and covering letter giving details of three referees, one of whom must be the current or most recent employer, to Carol Eaton, Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine, John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington, Oxford OX3 9DS (email: carol.eaton@imm.ox.ac.uk). Please quote the reference number H811003 on all applications.
