Bioinformatics Fellowship: Optimizing the CEREALAB dBase applied to crop plant genetics
Optimizing the performance of the CEREALAB database

briefly described in the Abstract below, funded by the Emilia-Romagna Regional Government (High Technology Network). The scientific activity will be carried out at the Department of Food and Agricultural Sciences of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
The successful applicant will be based at the University of Mo and Re (seat of Reggio) and involved in all the parts of the scientific project. The required skills are the following: Java programming, SQL language, DBMS MySql and Microsoft SQL Server; scripting (PHP, Javascript) and markup (HTML, XML) languages. Knowledge of plant genetics and biology will represent title of preference.
Application: through and with the modalities of the public call at http://www.unimore.it/Bandi/StuLau-BorseStudio.html deadline on July 15 2009. Further inquiries about the fellowship and research should be sent to:

Abstract
The proposed research project aims at increasing the preformance of the present version of the database CEREALAB, containing phenotypic ad genotypic plant data searchable simultaneously. This with the aim to guarantee higher speed in phase of querying. The present version of the dbase, that is based on the MOMIS (www.dbgroup.unimo.it/Momis) virtual mediator, should be partially or totally "materialized", with efficient methods of updating. The fellow should moreover programme a new web interface, and new queries to interrogate the database CEREALAB.
