BACKGROUND:
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, located in Memphis, Tennessee,
is a premier center for research and treatment of potentially fatal
childhood diseases, including cancer and certain blood, genetic, and
immunodeficiency disorders. The hospital's mission is to advance
cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases

Currently, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has an opening for a
Bioinformatics Associate Research Scientist (Job Number 16844).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Bioinformatics Associate Research Scientist in the Information
Sciences Department participates in data mining, data visualization,
statistical analysis, experimental design, and database development.
The incumbent provides research support to interdepartmental
investigators and assists in training investigators and new users to
use bioinformatics applications and databases. The Research Scientist
participates in the bioinformatics group's independent research and
assists in preparing and submitting manuscripts for publication.
REQUIREMENTS:
* PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics or
related field is required.
* PhD, which must include research related to bioinformatics (such
as analysis of sequence data, microarrays, SNPs, image data,
proteomics data, or biological pathways; development of algorithms,
statistical methods, or scientific software) or,
* PhD with no bioinformatics research, then minimum of 2 years of
pre-or postdoctoral experience in Computational Biology or
Bioinformatics research is required.
* Experience with programming languages such as Perl, C, or Java
is required.
