Open position in Bioinformatics at Candiolo Cancer Institute - Cancer Molecular Biology Unit, University of Torino (http://www.linkedin.com/in/cancer-molecular-biology-4a4023293).
Our group aims to study the molecular mechanisms that drive resistance to current therapies and identify new biomarkers and therapeutic targets, focusing on gastric cancer. We developed a proprietary platform of patient-derived models, including over 200 patient-derived xenografts (PDXs) and over 100 derivatives in vitro models.
We routinely characterize each PDX and the corresponding primary tumor sample for molecular alterations, such as copy number alterations in tyrosine kinases such as HER2, EGFR, MET, KRAS, EBV, and MSI status. Our platform constantly expands and includes multi-omics data (exome sequencing, RNA sequencing, miRNA sequencing, etc.).
Our group is composed, at present, of a Full Professor, an Associate Professor, a Researcher, three postdoc fellows, two PhD students, 2 technicians, and students. The project will be conducted at the Candiolo Cancer Institute, FPO-IRCCS (Torino), which hosts research groups affiliated with the University of Torino. The laboratory is equipped with up-to-date technologies and is involved in several national and international collaborations.
We seek a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate willing to contribute to our platform and scientific goals. He/she will deal with large-scale analysis of NGS data, supporting the development of the platform and projects, and also have the possibility of managing his/her research paths. The candidate should have also a proactive attitude and good communication and organization skills.
We offer a contract that will be held for five years, subject to yearly renewals. The position benefits from a competitive salary (commensurate with experience). Alternatively, our institute hosts the Complex Systems for Quantitative Biomedicine PhD course.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field
- Computational background with knowledge in bioinformatics, computational biology, or genomics
- Basic experience in NGS data analysis
- Proficiency in LINUX/UNIX OS and R or Python languages
- Good proficiency in English speaking and writing skills
- Ability to work in a team and attention to details
How to apply
Qualified and interested candidates are invited to apply by sending a detailed CV, a cover letter describing her/his research background/interests and motivation to join the lab, and the contact information to Prof. Silvia Giordano (silvia.giordano@ircc.it). Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
