The candidate will be mainly in charge of developing applied research in computational biology, dealing with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) multi-omics profiles of rare/complex genetic diseases, innovative therapies, and regenerative medicine. S/he will be involved in the development of MitImpact (https://doi.org/10.1093/nar/gkaa1032, a collection of genomic, clinical, and functional annotations for all nucleotide changes that cause non-synonymous substitutions in human mitochondrial protein-coding genes; APOGEE (https://goo.gl/saQPJV), our machine learning tool for the putative pathogenicity prediction of mitochondrial mutations; and in groundbreaking research projects regarding, e.g., network biology, cancer research, SARS-CoV-2 neutralization.

The correct cultural background is in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics with solid statistical background, or Biostatistics. Knowledge of R and Python to analyze and represent data is a golden plus. Good knowledge of Scientific English will be positively evaluated for this position and good presentation and teamwork skills.

Context
Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza is an Institute for hospitalization, care, and scientific research located in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy. It integrates clinical assistance (with inpatient and outpatient facilities) and research. It has an affiliate institute, CSS-Mendel, located in Rome. It employs over 150 researchers who focus on genetic diseases, innovative therapies, and regenerative medicine between the two sites. The Center is equipped with state-of-the-art genomics technology and two dedicated high-performance computing clusters, a non-conventional workstation of GPUs, and short- and long-term storage. The bioinformatics laboratory comprises six members, each with his/her scientific skills and interests, making the whole work environment heterogeneous and stimulating (http://bioinformatics.css-mendel.it).
