A Postdoc position in Computational Genomics is available at the University of Florence. The position is in the context of a 5-years funded AIRC grant to Dr Alberto Magi, and in collaboration with Prof Pier Giuseppe Pelicci at European Institute of Oncology.

Research. We want to evaluate the capability of nanopore long reads to expand the spectrum of detectable genetic variants in cancer genomes and develop a state-of-the-art computational pipeline for exploiting this new generation of sequencing data for DNA cancer biomarker discovery.
To this end we will perform high coverage whole-genome sequencing (WGS) experiments of pairs of tumor and matched normal samples by using the Oxford Nanopore Technologies GridION platform and the illumina platform.

Role. The post holder will be involved in the analysis and integration of Nanopore and Illumina WGS data. He/she will contribute to the design of computational pipelines and the development of novel algorithms for the analysis of this new generation of sequencing data.

Candidate. The ideal Candidate will have a PhD in computational biology, computer science, engineering, bioinformatics or similar; Experience in bioinformatics analyses, especially in the analysis of NGS experiments; knowledge of programming languages as R, bash, python; experience in theoretical and practical statistical approaches. Background in cancer genetics is recommended.

Application. To apply for this position please submit a cover letter describing research experience and motivation, CV and contact information of 2/3 references to: albertomagi@gmail.com
The position is available immediately. Salary will vary according to experience.
