One position is avaliable at Spedali Civili di Brescia (Brescia, Italy) jointly with the Unit of Biostatistics & Bioinformatics, University of Brescia, for a Bioinformatician/Biostatistician to work in a project on Genetic and immunological study of children with Crohn's disease
Crohn's disease (CD), is a life-long disease, and its incidence is rapidly increasing, in particular in industrialized countries.
About 25% of CD cases have an onset in childhood, and CD cases with childhood-onset are more aggressive and severe than adult-onset CD. Despite numerous attempts to elucidate the pathogenesis of CD, it still remains largely unclear, and despite CD is considered to some extent a disease depending from the environment, there is no known way to prevent it.
Recent evidence suggests that CD may result from abnormal interactions between the environment -through commensal bacteria in the gut- and genetic factors.
The project will:
1) Investigate the genetic basis of CD in children;
2) Elucidate the role of intestinal microbioma and mucosal immunity in CD;
3) Understand the effects of thalidomide, an emerging therapy for CD, on hematopoietic and
mucosal immunity in CD.
The desidered profile is has a background in bioinformatics and biostatistics, with experience in NGS data modelling
Salary
The position will be funded for 3-years.
