Job Description: In the frame of an ERC Advanced Grant recently awarded to Michele Morgante, we are looking for highly motivated PhD candidates.
The successful candidates will be enrolled in the Joint Ph.D in Molecular Biology 2014/2015, jointly offered by The International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) in Trieste, the University of Trieste, the University of Udine and the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) in Trieste.
The successful candidates will be performing their research at the University of Udine and at the Istituto di Genomica Applicata (IGA, a state-of-the-art research center focused on plant genomics) in Udine. They will be part of a research team that is composed of about 20 people and actively participates in several international sequencing projects and will work on the analysis of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data in the framework of the ERC project NOVABREED on "Novel variation in plant breeding and the plant pan-genomes". The main research topics will be 1) identification of small/large structural variants in grape and maize, 2) development of methods for the detection of structural variants, 3) analysis of allele-specific gene expression using NGS, 4) analysis of chromatin conformation using NGS, and 5) population genomics of structural variants.
Candidates with excellent academic record are encouraged to apply.
