Description
The Laboratory of Genetics of Neurological Complex Diseases is affiliated to the Institute of Experimental Neurology (INSPE) at San Raffaele Scientific Institute, and has openings for a PhD position.
The aim of the project is the identification and the functional evaluation of genetic predictors
which influence the efficacy of Interferon (IFN) in patients affected by multiple sclerosis (MS). A large DNA bank of about 800 MS patients treated with IFN is available at the laboratory of Genetics of Neurological Complex Disease at the INSPE taking advantage of the collaboration with the MS centre of the Ospedale San Raffaele.
The candidate will be involved in analysing and combining high throughput DNA and RNA sequencing data both from NGS sequencing platforms and genotyping arrays (GWAS data), as well as interacting with neurologists, biologists and bioinformaticians.
Qualifications
Master degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, with a background of relevant content in bioinformatics and quantitative analysis of high-throughput data in molecular genetics.
Good knowledge of Linux environment and familiarity with at least two of the following languages: Perl, Python, Java, R.
Good knowledge of relational databases (MySQL or PostgreSQL)
Good communication skills in English.
