Bioinformatic position at ARK-Genomics

ARK-Genomics is a thriving international genomics facility based at The Roslin Institute, employing the latest next-generation sequencing, SNP genotyping and microarray technologies. We have a vacancy in our bioinformatics group to develop and manage our sequencing informatics pipeline and to provide bioinformatics support to the facility.

The primary role of the job-holder will be to extract and manage data from our next generation sequencing (NGS) instruments (Illumina HiSeq 2000 and GAIIx), including running the CASAVA 1.8 pipeline when runs finish, dealing with any problems reported by CASAVA, moving data to our secure archive data store and updating our internal wiki. The secondary role is to provide bioinformatics support to the facility, including analysis of NGS, microarray and SNP genotyping data for various collaborators.

A strong track record in bioinformatics and scripting is essential, as is experience of working with Linux or Unix operating systems. Experience in the integration and analysis of next-generation sequencing data is also essential, as is good knowledge of biological systems

The successful candidate will have a degree in the biological sciences with a subsequent qualification (e.g. MSc, PhD) in bioinformatics; or a degree in computer science, mathematics or equivalent technical subject with subsequent qualification or experience in the biological sciences. The ability to communicate complex information clearly, orally and in writing is required.

The successful candidate will join an international genomics facility based at The Roslin Institute, and will enjoy interactions with a dynamic team of both wet and dry scientists.

This post is fixed term for 12 months, with possibility of extension should further funding be obtained.
