Job Description
NMS is a research based Italian company dedicated to the discovery and development of new targeted drugs for the treatment of cancer. In order to strengthen its genomic approaches for the molecular characterization of tumors and the identification of markers of sensitivity to the new drugs under development, NMS is seeking a motivated and talented Bioinformatician to analyse data generated at its Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Unit.
Responsibilities
Process and analyse high throughput DNA and RNA sequencing data from a NGS sequencing platform, reporting to the Head of the NGS Unit. Develop, optimize and run NGS analysis pipeline and data management systems. Interact with biologists and other bioinformaticians in the lab, as well as with the multidisciplinary teams of NMS.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or PhD in Bioinformatics, Informatics, Statistics, Mathematics or Computer Science Experience in analysing Next Generation Sequence data with participation in at least one NGS project. Excellent knowledge of Linux/Unix environment and programming languages (Perl, Java, Python or C++). Experience with biostatistical software packages (e.g. R) Knowledge of relational databases (MySQL or similar). Experience as System Amministrator is a plus. Flexible and willing to work across multiple projects and technology in a rapidly evolving scientific context. Excellent communication skills in English and organizational skills. Previous experience in a cancer research project is a plus.
The job location will be at the NMS site in Catania.
