Job Description
We are looking for a Content Coordinator to join the European Nucleotide Archive (ENA) group a the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI) located on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK.
 
The post-holder will be responsible for scientific content, covering raw sequence data, assembly and alignment information and assembled and annotated sequences, derived from a variety of sources that includes data submission pipelines from experimental laboratories and sequencing centres, external data resources with whom we collaborate, and automated systems that draw upon rules curated in house. The team maintains close collaboration with both data submitters and database users and offers extensive helpdesk facilities; the post-holder's sub-team provides the public face of the project and is responsible for promoting use of the resource, user training and investigation of new types of nucleotide sequence data and user requirements.
 
The postholder will manage the sub-team of content-focused curators and bioinformaticians who deliver new and updated content into the databases of the ENA. As a senior member of the ENA team, the Content Coordinator will contribute proactively in the many collaborations of the team and will have input into strategic and tactical decision making to further the ENA project and broader EBI goals.
 
The EBI, part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), is a world-leading bioinformtics  centre providing biological data to the scientific community and the EBI provides world-class data and analysis resources to the biological community.

Qualifications and Experience

The successful candidate should have a broad knowledge of molecular biology and bioinformatics, possessing a university degree in life sciences and a relevant postgraduate qualification. (S)he is expected to have 5 years professional experience in a bioinformatics service environment or, if this is lacking, at least 5 years of professional experience in a related environment and an ability to demonstrate the direct relevance of the experience. Line management experience is strongly desired for this post. Experience in the use of bioinformatics analysis tools or in bioinformatics software development are essential; scripting and software development skills are desirable.

The Content Coordinator must command the teams' respect and have excellent organisational and managerial skills. (S)he must be quality-conscious, have strong presentation skills and lead the group by example. Excellent English language  and interpersonal skills are also a prerequisite.
