A joint 2 year post-doctoral position is available in the labs of Dr. Paul
Heppenstall, at EMBL-Monterotondo (Italy), and Prof. Janet Thornton, at EMBL-
EBI (UK) to investigate gating mechanisms in ion channels using both
computational and experimental (molecular biology and electrophysiology)
techniques.
The EMBL-EBI provides a unique environment for bioinformatics research, with a
broad palette of research interests that complement its well-known data
resources. EMBL-Monterotondo offers expertise in mouse genetics and state of
the art facilities for physiology. Moreover, as an integral part of EMBL, which is
currently the most productive research institute outside the US, both institutions
are involved in strongly interdisciplinary research projects across the EMBL's five
sites.
We invite applications from biologists, physicists and bioinformaticians with
interests in both computational biology of transmembrane proteins and ion
channel physiology. The successful applicant will spend approximately 1 year in
Cambridge (UK) at EBI and 1 year in Monterotondo (Italy) and is expected to
develop novel methods (both experimental and computational) to investigate
channel biophysics. Knowledge of programming languages C and Perl and of
electrophysiology would be advantageous but is not required.
If interested, please send your CV along with the names of two referess to Dr
Paul Heppenstall (paul [dot] heppenstall [at] embl [dot] it) or Dr. Marialuisa Pellegrini-Calace
(marial [at] ebi [dot] ac [dot] uk).
