PhD and postdoc positions in cancer biomedicine/bioinformatics
Location
Oslo University Hospital HE
Referent
Department of Molecular Oncology

Two positions are available at the Department of Molecular Oncology, Institute for Cancer Research, Oslo University Hospital; one PhD position and one postdoc position. Both positions are advertised for a three‐year period in the research group of Professor Ragnhild A. Lothe. The positions will be part of the inter‐disciplinary research program of the K.G. Jebsen Centre for Colorectal Cancer Research and the hospital focus area SMART ‐ Colorectal Cancer, as well as associated with the Toppforsk project “Modeling tumor heterogeneity in colorectal cancer management”. All three initiatives are led by Professor Lothe. We seek young investigators with formal education in molecular biology, medicine or bioinformatics. The candidates should have competence in cancer biology and bioinformatics.
Applicants must apply electronically through WebCruiter (Ref. no. 3136817788; http://www.oslo‐universitetssykehus.no/jobbsok_/Sider/Ledige‐stillinger.aspx).
Oslo University Hospital will e‐mail a job offer including a working contract to relevant candidates.

Job description
• We conduct translational, multi‐disciplinary research in colorectal cancer with the overarching goal of developing novel biomedical knowledge into improved patient stratification and treatment.
• Both the PhD and postdoc project will be within work packages that aim to decipher genomic intra‐tumor heterogeneity in primary and metastatic colorectal cancer, as well as genomic inter‐tumor heterogeneity among liver metastases, in relation to disease progression and treatment response. The projects will address subclonal evolution in patients who progress to metastatic disease, with and without selection pressure imposed by treatment.
• Both candidates will be part of an inter‐disciplinary network in which the necessary clinical research logistics, biobanks, experimental technologies and computational oncology is established. The latter includes storage and handling of large and sensitive data sets, bioinformatic tools and pipelines, as well as biostatistics.
• Emphasis on wet lab or computational oncology will be determined according to the qualifications of, and in dialogue with the candidates who are offered the positions.

Qualifications
• We seek a PhD candidate with an MD or MSc degree in molecular biology/genetics/pharmacy/bioinformatics, and who has competence in cancer biology and bioinformatics.
• We seek a postdoc candidate with a PhD, or who has recently submitted a PhD thesis for evaluation in molecular biology/genetics/genomics/bioinformatics.
• It is a prerequisite that the candidates have some experience with relevant wet lab or computational analyses. It is an advantage if the candidates have experience across both disciplines. The employed investigators will contribute in planning and conducting the projects, as well as in publication of research results.
