A position is available in the Safety of Gene Therapy and Insertional Mutagenesis research unit (PI, Dr E. Montini) at the San Raffaele Telethon Institute for Gene Therapy, which is a highly competitive and motivating institute with good funding for research activity. 

The candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Cesana on a project founded by the Ministry of Health. The goal of the project is the identification of molecular targets and molecular mechanisms favoring the persistence of the HIV infection.

 

In this project, successful candidate will work in tight contact with biologists and will manage next generation sequencing data to identify the distribution of the viral integration profile and to characterize the transcriptome of the infected cells isolated from patients. Specific bioinformatics pipeline developed in the context of the San Raffaele Telethon Institute for Gene therapy will be used and specifically adapted to retrieve viral integration sites.

 

Candidates could apply to PhD programs in Bioinformatics or Computer Science working on our project.

 

 Requirements

The ideal candidate is seeking a long-term commitment. He/she is a young motivated and enthusiastic researcher, with a good propensity to team working and eventually committed to undertake a PhD program in Bioinformatics or Computer Science/Engineering.

 

Preferred experiences/skills: programming languages (i.e. Java, Python, Perl, Bash, PHP, Ajax, etc), databases and query languages (MySQL, PostgreSQL, X-Query).

 

Both graduate students and PhD are encouraged to apply. Salary will be determined according to experience and CV profile.
