We are seeking a Research Associate to conduct computational research on structural systems biology in
the Structural Bioinformatics and Network Biology laboratory (http://sbnb.irbbarcelona.org), led by Dr
Patrick Aloy. Research in our lab mainly focuses on understanding the molecular bases of how
macromolecular complexes and cell networks operate by analyzing protein interaction networks with the
help of high-resolution 3D structures.
DUTIES
The successful candidate will be expected to lead the structural bioinformatics research in the
group, contributing with new ideas and co-supervising junior researchers. In addition, he/she
will also be responsible of the maintenance and continuous improvement of the structural
systems biology resources that we offer to the scientific community, such as Interactome3d,
3Did and dSysMap (http://sbnb.irbbarcelona.org/resources).
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- PhD degree or equivalent in bioinformatics or computational biology
- Previous postdoctoral experience, with international exposure, and a remarkable publications
- record
- Strong background in molecular and structural biology
- Deep knowledge of structural bioinformatics techniques (e.g. homology and template-based
- modelling, structural alignments, docking, etc)
- Excellent programming/scripting skills
- Experience with handling large-scale biological data would be an asset
- Positive organizational, problem solving and communication skills
- Fluent spoken and written English
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENTITLEMENTS
An initial two-year contract, renewable, and with the possibility of becoming a permanent
position linked to the SB&NB Group
A competitive salary depending on the experience and qualifications of the applicant
