Postdoctoral Fellowship in computational biology

NeuroEpigenetics – Dr. Marta Biagioli

CIBIO – Center for Integrative Biology University of Trento (ITALY)

We are considering computational biologists or bioinformatics specialists for a three year Postdoctoral position to perform functional genomic analyses of the genetic causes of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and related neurodevelopmental abnormalities.

These projects will take place under the direction of Dr. Marta Biagioli’s at the Centre for Integrative Biology (CIBIO), University of Trento in Italy.

The position will be based at Dr. Biagioli’s laboratory, just established in October 2014 at the University of Trento, but will also entail a close collaboration and 9-12 months of training in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Talkowski at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and the Broad Institute in Boston, MA, USA (http://talkowski.mgh.harvard.edu/).

The studies will specifically focus on genome-wide chromatin and transcriptome analyses in induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) that have undergone genome editing to model strong effect mutations associated with ASD. The candidate will have the opportunity to work in a unique translational environment that will integrate computational analyses with an advanced molecular biology laboratory, and substantial resources within the University of Trento Campus and collaborators at Harvard Medical School and the Broad Institute.

The ideal candidate will have: An interdisciplinary background in bioinformatics & computational biology; advanced expertise in the analysis and interpretation of next-generation sequencing data focusing on RNA-seq and CHIP-seq and its integration with other “omics” data sources; good programming skills; and advanced knowledge of statistical and machine learning methods.

Required Skills: A Ph.D. in human genetics, quantitative genetics, computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, or mathematics.

Ability to program in Python, Perl and R.• Familiarity with Unix systems.• Familiarity with RNA and DNA sequencing alignment tools (e.g. Tophat, GSNAP, BWA), RNA-seq analysis tools (e.g. cufflinks/cuffdiff, DESeq, EdgeR) and CHIP-seq analysis tools (e.g. MACS, SPP).

How to apply: All candidates should provide an academic curriculum vitae or resume, and if selected for an interview will be required to provide three letters of reference from academic or industry supervisors.
