CASP meeting in Europe: DEADLINE APPROACHING
8th Community Wide Experiment on the Critical Assessment of
Techniques for Protein Structure Prediction (CASP)
The main goal of CASP is to obtain an in-depth and objective
assessment of our current abilities and inabilities in the area of
protein structure prediction. To this end, participants will predict
as much as possible about a set of soon to be known structures. These
will be true predictions, not ‘post-dictions’ made on already known
structures.
The CASP meeting to discuss results of the experiment will be held on
the island of Sardinia, Italy, December 3-7, 2008 (starting at 6pm on
the 3rd and ending on the 7th). The last day of the meeting will
include the "KAUST workshop", an open discussion of the results of
the experiment.
The meeting will take place at Hotel Setar, near Cagliari. The hotel
is 10 kilometers from Cagliari and 15 from the Cagliari airport. As
customary in CASP, the hotel is on the beach! A lot of useful
information about the meeting venue can be found on the casp web site
(http://www.predictioncenter.org/casp8).
The meeting will have limited attendance (about 300 participants) and
precedence will be given to active predictors. Some financial
assistance will be available for the most successful predictors and
students.
DEADLINE FOR FELLOWSHIP APPLICATION IS OCTOBER 9th 2008
Registration fee includes admission to all sessions, an abstract CD,
coffee breaks, poster sessions with drinks. Lunches and dinners will
only be available to hotel residents. For non-residents, conference
dinner tickets will be available for purchase. The registration fee
has to be paid in advance in US dollars. The price for registration
goes up on October 18, 2008. There will be absolutely no refunds.

Academics and Members of not-for-profit organizations: $450
Others: $750
Late registration (on or after October 18, 2008)
Academics and Members of not-for-profit organizations: $550

Lodging fee
Lodging fee includes hotel stay for four nights and breakfasts.
Lodging fee has to be paid at hotel check-in.
Double occupancy: 76 EURO * 4 nights = 304 EURO
Single occupancy (subject to limited availability): 106 EURO
* 4 nights = 424 EURO
A limited number of accommodation fellowships and travel fellowships
will be available. However, registration should not be made
contingent on an accommodation or travel award.
