1 PhD and 2 postdocs position - CRG - Barcelona, Spain
PhD Student. A position is available in the comparative bioinformatics lab (Cédric Notredame, www.tcoffee.org), at the CRG (Barcelona, Spain) for a PhD student interested in the study of long non coding RNAs in Trypanosomatide. The work will be done in the collaboration with the Pasteur Institute (Paris) and the Facultat de Medecina (Lisbon). Our lab is purely computational but has developed an important sequencing component through interactions with experimental labs dedicated to the study of virulence in Leishamnia and Trypanosome. The main task of the student will be to develop new methods for the comparison of lncRNAs in order to understand their potential interaction with the host. We will use evolutionary and genomics analysis so as to generate hypothesis meant to be tested in the various in-vivo systems available for our collaborators. The required skills include some experience working with genomics data, the ability to code in Perl or Python, a good operational knowledge of R and some experience working with the Linux operating system. Contact cedric.notredame@crg.eu for more information.
Note: the student will be hired through the CRG PhD call, whose deadline is on the 28/02 (http://pasteur.crg.es/portal/page/portal/Internet/05_TRABCONS/HIDE-PHD/HIDE-Fellowships_la_Caixa)

Post Doc. A post doc position is available in the comparative bioinformatics lab (Cédric Notredame, www.tcoffee.org), at the CRG (Barcelona) for a post doc interested in comparative genomics. The goal of the project will be to develop a new technology for genome multiple sequence alignments able to integrate experimental (RNASeq, epigenetic marks) so as to improve the alignment of non-coding regions. The approach will draw on the extensive experience the lab has acquired in the development of multiple sequence comparison methods. We develop and support T-Coffee a highly popular multiple sequence alignment tool. This project will be done in collaboration with the European Institute of Bioinformatics and will aim at setting new standards for the integration of functional data when modeling evolutionary relationships across genomes. The candidate will be expected to have a strong background in computer science, and a very good practical knowledge of high throughput sequencing data. The position is available for 1 year, renewable once. Contact cedric.notredame@crg.eu for more information.

Post Doc. A position is available in the comparative bioinformatics lab (Cédric Notredame, www.tcoffee.org), at the CRG (Barcelona) for a post doc interested the development of structure based methods for the reconstruction of ancient phylogenetic histories. Our lab has recently developed new methods making it possible to use structural clustering in order to infer functional relationships between protein and RNA sequences (22789664, 20471393). We are now interested in establishing the evolutionary relevance of such analysis. The candidate will be expected to have a strong background in computer science, and some experience in handling structural data. The position is available for 1 year, renewable once.
