Bioinformatician with statistical competences for protein microarray data image elaboration and analysis and experimental results statistical analysis within an AIRC molecular oncology research project - Rome - Italy

The Regina Elena National Cancer Institute (Rome, Italy), together with the Hematologic and Oncologic Biotechnologies Division (Hematology, Oncology and Molecular Medicine Department) of Istituto Superiore di Sanità (Rome, Italy), is searching for a bioinformatician with competences in biostatistics to employ for reverse phase protein microarray image data elaboration and experimental data statistical analysis within an AIRC molecular oncology research project aimed at analyzing transduction pathways in cancer stem cells from colorectal and lung tumour.

The figure will use a specific software for identification and quantification of spots and has to be able to analyse and elaborate protein expression microarray data with consulting of public genome databases. The figure will have also to support the experimental data statistical analysis relative to the experimental research activity, aimed at identification of innovative molecular targeted therapies against cancer through the search or assembly of new molecules (inhibitors or monoclonal antibodies) directed against cancer stem cells.

The candidate must have a Master’s degree in the Bio-Medical field (Biology, Biotechnology or similar), together with a postgraduate formation or working experience in bioinformatics and biostatistics.

For the image analysis activity a good acquaintance with the Office package (particularly an advanced use of Excel), with programs of image elaboration and analysis (Photoshop, Image J), as well as with consulting of genomic, proteomic and protein-protein interaction databases, will be necessary. A good knowledge of written and oral English is also requested.

A specific experience in microarray study and the ability to use software designed for the study of genes interaction within transduction pathways will constitute a plus. Further weight will be attributed to possible competences in statistical programming, especially in R environment.

A co.co.co. contract of 1 year renewable every year and starting from June 2013 is offered. Salary will depend on candidate’s experience. The work will be conducted at the Biobank of Cancer Stem Cells of Istituto Superiore di Sanità located in via Giano Della Bella, 34, Rome (near Università La Sapienza and Policlinico Umberto I, Metro B Policlinico). At the end of the selection, before the formalization of the contract, the candidate will be asked to conduct a two-week probationary period in order to evaluate his/her professional abilities.
