PhD in BIOINFORMATICS @ SZN, Naples, Italy

BACKGROUND:
The Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn in Naples is among the top research institutions in the field of marine and molecular biology. The new established bioinformatics laboratory is seeking for a candidate interested in the evolution of genome architecture and gene regulatory networks. Specifically the focus of the project will be on noncoding RNAs and will imply the analysis of next generation sequencing data http://bit.ly/N2QjNb

We are looking for someone who understands basic biological and evolutionary problems and is able to independently accomplish bioinformatics tasks.

REQUIREMENTS:
Candidates will be expected to have knowledge of biology, functional genomics and programming in a UNIX/Linux environment. Previous experience with comparative genomics and genomics databases is a desirable asset. The selected student will become familiar with at least a scripting language (Perl), a database system (MySQL) and a statistical programming environment (R) in order to build bioinformatics pipelines. Wet lab work might be required during the PhD. The PhD will be carried out in collaboration with the Open University (UK) and Professor Stefano Gustincich at the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) of Trieste.
