Scientific Training Officer at EMBL-EBI - Hinxton - UK
Job Description

We are looking for a Scientific Training Officer to join the Outreach and Training Team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBI-EBI) located on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK.

The incumbent will maintain and expand the Training activities at EBML-EBI and at other locations worldwide, including development of online training materials. The main responsibilities of the post holder will be developing training materials for face-to-face and online delivery, coordinating the collection of training statistics and teaching on courses where appropriate, both at EMBL-EBI and at other locations worldwide. The candidate will be expected to familiarise themselves with EMBL-EBI’s major resources and tools and keep up-to-date with current trends in biological research and life scientist’s use of bioinformatics resources and tools.

An integral part of this service is the User Training Programme, offering online as well as on-site and off-site hands on training to life scientists world-wide on how to make the most of EBI Bioinformatics resources and tools.

Qualifications and Experience

The post holder should possess a PhD in life sciences and ideally some postdoctoral experience. The ideal applicant will be familiar with using bioinformatics services to solve biological problems. Experience in training other researchers to use bioinformatics tools, and/or the development of training materials or documentation, is highly desirable.
 
In addition to being highly self-motivated, the ideal candidate must have excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to work well as part of a team. Ability to work to deadlines is essential. Good working knowledge of Windows and Unix/Linus is essential, and the ability to programme in Perl or Java would be an asset but is not essential.
