Bioinformatics Engineer at the CRG in Barcelona



The Comparative Bioinformatics Laboratory (CBL) is looking for a
bioinformatics engineer. The CBL is staffed with about 10 researchers and
headed by Cédric Notredame. It is part of the bioinformatics and genomics
department of the CRG (www.crg.es), one of the leading biological research
institute in Spain. The main focus of the CBL is the development of novel
multiple comparison algorithms for biological sequences (Protein, nucleic
acids and entire genomes).

The main duties of the candidate will be to help setting up and maintaining
the research framework of the laboratory in collaboration with the other
researchers of the group. This will involve: coordinating purchases,
anticipating the needs of the group in collaboration with the IT department,
installing and maintaining computational resources (databases,
bioinformatics software). The scientific aspect of the position will involve
developing computational web servers for the software produced and
maintained by the group. Depending on his interests, the candidate may also
provide some support to ongoing research projects.

The candidate is expected to have a strong background in computational
biology, an interest in computational hardware and a solid experience in
dealing with bioinformatics resources, with a preference for genomic data.
The candidate should be familiar with the LINUX operating system, with
scripting languages (Perl, Python) and web development tools (Apache, ajax,
soap)

The CRG is a very international environement (more than 40% non spanish).
The working and social language is English and the candidate is expected to
be fluent in this language. Practical knowledge of Spanish or Catalan is not
required, but the candidate will be encouraged to acquire any of these two
languages through the free training courses provided by the CRG.
