The main research areas of the group concern the study of the genetics of the senses such as hearing, taste and smell but also of psychiatric, cardiovascular phenotypes and many other traits/diseases. To date, the cohort includes about 9000 genotyped and about 2000 sequenced samples (Whole Genome Sequencing) from genetic isolates coming from Italy, Caucasus, Central Asia and Qatar. Moreover, the group is collaborating with many national and international prestigious research centers for data generation and analyses.

In particular, the activities carried out concern:

1) Identification of genes associated with traits/pathologies of interest through genome-wide association studies (GWAS)

2) preparation and quality control of genetic data (through analysis of genotyping data)

3) processing of whole-genome (WGS) and whole-exome sequencing (WES) data for research and diagnostic purposes for the study of various human pathologies

4) analysis of the structure of genetically isolated populations (small villages characterized by a high rate of inbreeding) from different parts of the world.

Basic knowledge of Linux systems, programming languages (e.g. Phyton, PERL, Bash etc.) and statistical software (e.g. R, PLINK, etc.) is required.
