Job Description

The bioinformatics Laboratory at IRCCS Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza - Mendel laboratory in Rome is looking for one Bioinformatician/Computational biologist/Statistician with proven experience in biostatistics and/or machine learning.

The candidate will be mainly in charge of developing applied research in computational biology, dealing with gene expression, SNP Arrays, Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) whole -exome, - transcriptome, genome, methylome profiles of rare/complex genetic diseases, innovative therapies and regenerative medicine. S/he will be involved in the implementation of APOGEE, our LMT classifier for the putative pathogenicity prediction of mitochondrial mutations (https://goo.gl/saQPJV) and in groundbreaking research projects, regarding population genetics analysis, survival statistics, drug response and prognostics studies (e.g., https://goo.gl/0QPgUf), genotype to phenotype correlation (e.g., https://goo.gl/1bbHRW), functional enrichment analysis of multilayer genomics profiles (e.g., https://goo.gl/GzVyRn).

The correct cultural background is in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics or Computational Biology with strong statistical background.

Knowledge of R, SAS, Python, R to manage, analyze and represent data is a golden plus. Good knowledge of Scientific English will be positively evaluated for this position, together with good presentation and teamwork skills.

Context

Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza is an Institute for hospitalization, care, and scientific research located in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy. It integrates clinical assistance (with inpatient and outpatient facilities) and research. It has an affiliate institute, CSS-Mendel, located in Rome. Between the two sites, it employs over 150 researchers who focus on genetic diseases, innovative therapies and regenerative medicine. The Center is equipped with state of the art genomics technology (2 Illumina MiSeq and one NextSeq 500, ThermoFisher Ion Proton and Ion S5, Agilent microarray platforms) as well as two dedicated high performance computing clusters, a non-conventional workstation of GPUs and a short- and long-term storage.
