Bioinformatic Post-Doc at Functional Genomics Laboratory of the University of Verona

We offer:
A challenging job as a post-doc bioinformatician within a research group expanding toward novel genomics technologies.
The mission of the Functional Genomics Laboratory of the University of Verona (Italy) is to carry out projects in DNA sequencing and analysis, by implementing and developing the state-of-the-art high-throughput technologies. The group has a long standing experience in the analysis of transcriptome and genome in human, plants, animals and bacteria, by using different Next Genera on Sequencing (NGS) technologies such as Illumina, PacBio and Oxford Nanopore. The group is constantly involved in the implementation of these technologies into novel applications, such as the single cell sequencing and the metagenomics, thus providing important opportunities in the medical and agricultural fields.

We ask:
We are seeking applicants with knowledge of next-genera on sequencing, genomics and experience in performing computational analysis from high-throughput datasets.
The candidate for this position will be responsible for developing pipe-lines and bioinformatic methods to analyze and interpret next-genera on sequencing data for the novel applications developed by the group.
Another primary duty will be the daily supervision of bioinformaticians and PhD students of the group.
We want an independent, creative, innovative and well-organized person with excellent cooperative skills.

Minimum Requirements:

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a PhD in one of these fields of study: biotechnology, computational biology, (bio)informatics, computer science, statistics or related fields.
• Programming/scripting skills (Bash, Perl/Python, R)
• Familiar with Unix environment
• Good communication and organizational skills
• Proficiency in English and scientific writing
• Experience with next genera on sequencing technologies
• Basic knowledge in statistics
Desired or preferred:
• Evidence of scholarly accomplishments/publications in bioinformatics journals
• Experience with database design and implementation
• Background in biology, molecular biology, genetics or genomics
• Ability to work collaboratively
• Experience in genome assembly and annotation
• Experience in RNAseq analysis
• Experience in SNV and structural variation analysis
• Experience with implementing algorithms
• Management skills

Additional information:
In this role you will be supervised by Professor Delledonne, head of the Laboratory of Functional Genomics (http://ddlab.dbt.univr.it). The position offered is for a starting period of one year with possibility of renew. The Functional Genomic Laboratory is working in close collaboration with Personal Genomics (http://www.personalgenomics.it), a spin-off within the University of Verona that is currently expanding.
