Job Description: A number of Ph.D. positions are available at University College Dublin, for work on machine learning methods for the prediction of properties of proteins, RNA, drug-like compounds. Candidates will request funding directly to the grant agency (www.ircset.ie) through a simple online form, jointly with the hosting lab. The final deadline for applications is mid-January. The candidates are requested to contact me by early January at the latest to coordinate the application for funding. Results are expected by April/May 2010. I am looking for candidates with a computational background, e.g. Engineering/Computer Science, or Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry with a strong programming experience. Candidates should have been awarded their B.Sc.+M.Sc. (e.g. Laurea Specialistica), or expect to complete it by the Summer of 2010, have top marks, and be highly motivated to work on interdisciplinary research. The positions will be located within the Complex and Adaptive Systems Laboratory, a highly interdisciplinary Institute hosting over 200 researchers, at University College Dublin, the largest university in Ireland, currently ranked within the top 100 research universities in the world.

Job Description: An exciting opportunity exists to work as a Bioinformatician within the Genome Centre in the William Harvey Research Institute at Barts and the London School of Medicine & Dentistry. The centre is a growing organization providing genetics and genomics technologies (focusing on next generation sequencing and micro array) to a variety of academic researchers within the school and the wider London academic community. The post will work closely with academics both in design and analysis of experiments utilizing these cutting edge technologies. This demanding role requires an applicant with a broad portfolio of skills including a extensive genetics/genomics knowledge, programming, databasing and system administration. The successful applicant should ideally have a PhD in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience. The post is full time for 3 years starting from 1st November or as soon as possible thereafter. Starting salary will be in the range £33,492-£35,355 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, final salary pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan. Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006.
