Software engineer for image management and analysis

We are looking for a highly motivated Software Engineer to join the group of Prof. Pavone at the European Laboratory for Non-linear Spectroscopy in Florence, in the framework of the European Flagship Human Brain Project. The successful candidate will optimize existing tools for the management and analysis of very large (> 1 TB) neuroanatomical image datasets obtained with cutting-edge optical microscopies. Her/his duties will also include the deployment of selected applications on high-performance computing environment, and the integration of deep-learning software for image segmentation directly inside data-producing apparatuses. The applicant must have significant expertise in software development, should master at least one commonly used programming language, and must have at least basic knowledge of Python. A PhD or Master degree in Computer Science/Engineering/Physics/Mathematics is preferred, together with previous research experience in image analysis or machine learning. Fluency in English, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary international environment are required.

The successful applicant will be hired with a 1 year, renewable research fellowship (‘Assegno di ricerca’) at the University of Florence. She/he will have the opportunity to work in the European-wide community of the Human Brain Project, and to interact with private companies working the image analysis field.
