Job Description
We are seeking a talented bioinformatician to join the Ensembl Genomes Team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) located on the Wellcome Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK.

Ensembl Genomes (http://www.ensemblgenomes.org) provides access to genome-scale data, including structural and functional annotation, comparative analysis, and polymorphism data, from non-vertebrate species, utilising the Ensembl software platform. The successful applicant will join the team and contribute to the generation and integration of data for release and the development of software pipelines to support this process. The applicant will also contribute to PomBase (http://www.pombase.org), a collaborative project specifically serving the fission yeast research community, which also uses the Ensembl infrastructure. The successful applicant will join a team of ~25 people working on Ensembl Genomes and other related projects, embedded within a wider grouping comprising over 70 staff working on genome annotation, mostly using the Ensembl platform.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team of web developers with responsibilities including:

Contribution to Ensembl Genomes data releases (data generation and integration)
Development of software to support the release
PomBase data releases
Development of the PomBase web portal.

Applicants are expected to be familiar with relational database management systems; specific experience with MySQL would be advantageous. Knowledge of the following would be highly desirable: Drupal, Git, Linux, software testing, and Ensembl. A background is research science is not required but a working knowledge of, or strong personal interest in, molecular biology and genomics is essential.

Maintaining communication with several collaborating teams is an important aspect of the role. Good communication and interpersonal skills are therefore essential. A flexible mind-set, a capacity for independent work, and a commitment to the delivery of a high-quality public service, are all required.

Benefits
